Justice for Custodio Family, Victims of Police Brutality

A message from FSA member Eric Tandoc:

Hi everybody,

I want to invite all y’all to an important Filipino community event in San Jose on Saturday (10/27).

It’s a cultural benefit fundraiser for the Custodio family, who were victims of police brutality a few months ago by the San Jose Police.

The youngest son, Marlo Custodio (18), was eating food in his parked car when a police officer came and started harassing him. The officer then pulled him out of the car and slammed his face on the hood. He called his mom and when she arrived the police started roughing her up too. After that, they were both charged with resisting arrest.

The case has really brought a lot of stress and anguish to the family and we’ve been doing our best to support them as a community and call for these false charges to be dropped. Throughout the past months, a lot of youth and community members from San Jose have come out and shown their support, especially when they have court hearings and other events.

It would mean a lot to them for FSA and students from Santa Cruz to come and support them. It would also be a good way to meet the family and folks from the San Jose Filipino community and start making contacts with them for future community work. =)

The event is hosted by FOCUS (Filipino Community Support), which is heading up the Justice for Custodio (JFC) campaign. It should be a dope event, with hip-hop and spoken word performances, cause it’s also highlighting Filipino American History Month, which is October.

Alright then, hope y’all can come through! Just let me know if you’d like to support.. =)

Peace,
Eric
