Alay Publication Celebration

Hello,

Just reminding you guys that the Alay Publication Celebration is coming up next Thursday from 7 PM to 10 PM. Refreshments will be provided and we will distribute free copies of Alay 2010. Come celebrate the revival of our student-run creative arts journal.

We would like more student performers and visual artists!!!

Please contact us ASAP if you are interested in sharing:
Spoken word
Poetry, Rap
Monologues
Dance
Musical performances
Comedy
etc.

If you would like to share visual media such as:
Paintings
Drawings
Photographs
Sculpture
Prints
Graphic T’s
etc.
Please bring them to the event. We would provide pins and tables for display.

Dear Community,
Thank you for your support thus far with Alay this year. We had a very successful event thanks to all of you!
Just for the heads up, we are currently working on the publication and are welcoming any help that you may offer, may it be LAST MINUTE submissions and/or staff help. No promises on inclusion of late submissions, though, increasingly so with the more time  you wait.
Also, look out for the Publication Celebration, tentatively scheduled for May 13; save the date! We will be releasing the publication at this event and will celebrate it and all of you through performances, speakers, exhibits, some grub, and live art!
But onto the main point of this e-mail: Alay is looking for interns!

Please see attached documents (attached as.docx &.doc but they’re the same content; do either one) for details and application.
Those who have already expressed interest, please complete the application as well, due ASAP.
Below is the description of Alay as well as our Mission & Vision:
if you want to help out but not necessarily be an intern, we are welcoming general staff members. Just get at us ;]
Description of the Organization:

- ALAY, which in Tagalog means “dedication or offering,” is an original student publication, housed under UCSC’s Filipino Student Association.  The publication is comprised of written and visual art, submitted by community members, and produced during Winter Quarter.

Our Mission & Vision:

-          Both as a group and as a publication, we hope to:

o   Create a safe and creative space for self-expression

o   Provide tools and guidance for producing artwork

o   Host events that showcase student work

o   Raise sufficient funds to produce events and a high-quality publication

o   Promote social causes, especially (but not limited to) issues within Filipino/Filipino Am and allied communities

-          Overall, our goals are simple but powerful.

-          We would like to “offer” you all the chance to participate in this fun and creative venture, and we “dedicate” ourselves to achieving the points above.

Hello All!

Alay is having an Open Mic and Student Art Exhibit on the night of Thursday,

February 11 (location and time still pending). In order to showcase student artwork

and performances, we need submissions!

We are looking for:

-singers/musicians

-spoken word

-skits

-skits

-monologues

-dancers

-sculptures

-paintings

-sketches

-photographs

**basically, any type of visual or performance art…
